Enhancing the safety of victim survivors experiencing or recovering from family violence
Relationships Australia Victoria works towards reducing family violence through our targeted support for men who use violence.
We are currently taking referrals to our Men’s Case Management program in Cranbourne North, Boronia, Kew and Sunshine.
Why do we offer case management to men who use violence?
The Royal Commission into Family Violence (Victoria) found that in order to achieve the overall objective of keeping victim survivors safe, the range of perpetrator interventions needed to be both broader and better integrated to create a ‘web of accountability’ to keep perpetrators in view of the service and justice systems.
How do we achieve this?
Our Men’s Case Management program offers free, individual support to men who use violence, and who are also experiencing complex needs such as drug and alcohol misuse, mental and physical health issues, and homelessness.
Our case managers work with the man to develop a tailored goal plan and can provide support for up to 20 hours. We do this by actively referring men into specialist services, for example drug and alcohol services, with the aim of reducing the impact of these issues. At the same time, we assist them to better understand the impact of their violence on their partner and children.
We recognise that when men are supported to stabilise and take responsibility for the complexity in their lives, they are more ready to address their violent and abusive behaviours.
When we see men engage in this work it reduces harm to women and children and helps men to develop respectful relationships.
This free program is fully funded by Family Safety Victoria and provided at no cost to clients.
