Relationships Australia Victoria fully supports the Uluru Statement from the Heart, and we strongly support the proposed change to the Constitution to recognise the First Nations of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice (the Voice).
We have consulted both within and outside of our organisation about the Voice, and we value the meaningful conversations with our First Nations Engagement Specialists, the Relationships Australia Indigenous Network, other services and community members.
We recognise that for many people, this time of uncertainty, debate and proposed change is challenging and upsetting. We also know that there are divergent views on the Voice, which are the result of individual experiences, beliefs and backgrounds. We deeply respect these differing opinions, and we support the right of every person to make their own decision on the Voice.
We believe that the Voice is the first of many steps needed for treaty-making, truth-telling and self-determination for First Nations peoples, and for all Australians to walk together to build a better future.
