Relationships Australia Victoria is pleased to release a new edition of Women and separation—Managing new horizons.

This practical and easy-to-read resource is designed to support women as they navigate the challenges of separation and look to the future.

Originally developed by Relationships Australia Victoria, with contributions in later editions from Beyond Blue, ‘Women and separation’ is one of our most utilised resources, with the digital edition downloaded over 700 times in the last year alone.

This updated version incorporates contemporary research on women’s experiences of separation, including the increased risks during separation for women and children experiencing family violence, and where to get support. The expanded list of recommended resources includes online resources, podcasts and research.

The booklet offers clear, accessible information across key topics including women’s experiences of separation, self-care tips that have helped other women, family violence, co-parenting, supporting children, working out a settlement and navigating the family law system, and looking to the future. It also includes guidance on where to find additional help and resources.

This latest edition incorporates updated statistics and research, and a more inclusive approach, acknowledging the diversity of families, cultures and gender identities. It aims to normalise the wide range of feelings and experiences women may have during and after separation.
Importantly, the booklet highlights the importance of placing children’s best interests at the centre of separation-related decision-making.

‘We hope this new edition of Women and separation will continue to assist women experiencing separation to feel supported, access the information and support they need, and know that they are not alone.’ – Russell Moore, Practice Specialist Family Law and Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner

We encourage members of the public to download a free digital copy of the booklet, and practitioners and service delivery organisations to share the resource with clients, as appropriate.
