Raising Respectful and Resilient Children in Multicultural Australia

Article

19/01/2021

We’re pleased to be collaborating with South East Community Links (SECL) to provide a free, six-week, culturally-inclusive parenting program in Melbourne’s South East.

When/Where: The program dates and venue will be announced soon.

Sessions: 6 x 2-hour sessions

COST: Free of charge. Bookings are essential as places are limited.

Facilitated in Hindi and English, this program is ideal for parents and families from the Indian community, who live in Melbourne’s South Eastern suburbs and have children aged eight to 14 years.

This program creates a safe space for multicultural families to have conversations around parenting and utilising parenting practices from your culture. Workshops acknowledge the wisdom in culturally relevant parenting practices and aim to build on parents’ knowledge, whilst supporting you to develop emotionally intelligent parenting practices.

Each week, we’ll explore the following questions.

  • What is your parenting story?
  • How do you nurture emotional expression in your
  • family?
  • How can you understand your children better?
  • How can you communicate better with your children?
  • How do you solve problems together as a family?
  • How do/could you create your own family culture?

Other workshop themes include:

  • understanding the influence of culture on parenting
  • building respect in parent-child relationships
  • collaborative problem solving in families
  • developing empathetic communication skills.
