Motivational Interviewing

Do you work with clients who sometimes get 'stuck'? In this workshop, you’ll learn micro skills for meeting clients at their stage of change, and how to harness your clients’ intrinsic motivation to change their thinking and behaviour.

You’ll also gain an overview of effective strategies that you can utilise when supporting clients with motivational interviewing.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this workshop, you'll be able to:

  • reflect on your current understanding of how and why people change
  • understand how motivational interviewing can help facilitate behaviour change
  • understand motivational interviewing techniques can be helpful in client work
  • identify strategies for helping clients who are paralysed by mixed feelings about change to get ‘un-stuck’
  • use techniques for encouraging clients to examine the benefits of change and identify what isn’t working about their current situation or thinking patterns.

Ideal for

Clinicians, social workers, community organisation workers, health professionals, youth workers, and child and family workers, and counsellors with any level of experience.
